Friends are moving away and had some plants that needed a new home. We had room so why not? Getting them from their fifth floor down, and into the car and then back up to our fourth floor terrace was not so easy, but it was worth the work. The olive barely fit in the elevators (or the car!). The pictures below are of the olive tree, the kumquat tree, and my lemon which I just moved outside for the summer.

Now we need to buy dirt so I can finish filling in around the olive rootball. We will need a LOT of dirt. After the olive is settled I want to fill in the garden we will use for the herbs. I miss all of my herbs from the other house. So nice to just walk out and pick what you need.
Hi Noel, for a second I didnt understand what you were saying, because I don’t have a rosemary plant at present. Then I realized you meant the lavender! I think I’m going to transplant the lavender to one of the beds. Next I’ll buy all the herbs. Rosemary is one of my favorites.
Hi Liz, you walked past our new apartment when you tried to walk to the pool. Now we are just a couple minutes from the pool. The evergreens are quite pretty. At least it’s not an apartment block! I’m starting to research what I should plant. It is a bit overwhelming!
If you’re not careful, your rosemary is going to overtake your olive tree, Nancy!
This is so exciting. You have the room to create a beautiful garden. I like the background of evergreens. Perfect!
Hi Jane, happy to oblige! 🙂 I am looking forward to doing the garden. I am no professional so I’m going to solicit some friends to come and take a look – one was a professional horticulturist. Right now I need a ton of dirt! And it’s tough getting it all up to the terrace in bags, even with a lift! No options that I know of!
Lovely to have such mature plants on the terrace. Good luck with it all, I love hearing about Umbria life while I’m back in London. Hope to be out inMontone soon!
