Big news! We got a call from the immobiliare that he had a response to our offer. We walked over (it is in walking distance). To our surprise, the selling couple, were in the office. I don’t think I have ever met the seller of a property we bought in the US. The first you see of them is when you go to closing. Walter and Marcella. They are super nice folks. And cat lovers!
Anyway, they agreed on the price we offered. The only changes they asked for, were for closing to be two months later and that they keep the big wood stove. That was fine with us and I know the buyers of our apartment are OK with us staying after we close. This will give us the money from the sale here to use on the apartment. I was a bit sad about the wood stove. I guess we will have to buy a new one.
It is a relief. But we still have the move ahead of us! This is uncharted territory, a move! A moving company! And I will definitely want to do some work. I have already decided I want a new kitchen upstairs. There is an itty bitty one in the same place where I’d put the new one so the water and all is there already. It will be open plan to the family room. But I guess I have to wait until we get there to get started. Otherwise I think I will want to have it painted, probably.
Anyway, I wanted to tell all those who read this journal. We now have a hiatus. We remain in our beloved house in Centro through two more seasons. I will enjoy another Christmas here. I will enjoy another Autumn. And then, it will be time for change!
Andrà tutto va bene! 🌈
HiJane…Exactly! It will be more relaxed. But it IS Italy, things never work out as planned here!
Good Luck.. sounds fun, plenty of time to plan and organise for the next move.
Thanks Linda…looking forward to the new project!
Hey Vian, we are happy the search and decision is made. We will now focus on making the new place our own. It was built in 1980 and it looks like 1980. A bit dated. So, a new project.
Thanks Cynthia! We will have a whole new neighborhood to explore and for me to write about! It won’t be quite as picturesque as the Centro Storico, which I will miss! But I am sure it will be nice.
Hi Lynn, we will close in November/December on THIS house with our new buyers. Then on December 31 on our new house. Then we have all winter to get the house renovation done and then to move. A pretty relaxed schedule. We don’t get snow here so not a problem. Yes it is the house with the enormous terrace. Makes me happy. All new places have their own bureaucratic challenges I am sure! Do write that blog/journal. I keep mine for myself and my memories.
Hey Liz,
I know you wanted a new place to explore. Sorry. Next time you’ll need a car! The house will be nice when we move it forward in time 40 years. And I know the cats will love it. There is a cat door to the terrace. I doubt either of ours will figure that out 🤣😂😅 Not the brightest bulbs in the chandelier!
Yay! Good for you, so glad this worked out for you!
Congratulations Nancy and Luther. Umbertide remains your town and you have a quieter place to enjoy it. What could be better?
Congratulations! So please to read that things have come together and you won’t be rushed to move. I’ve been following your adventures for a few months now and I really enjoy your posts.
So you don’t close until about November and the sellers want 2 months after that? So that would be January? That would be cold and snowy wouldn’t it? Congratulations on your new place! I think it was the one with the beautiful outside porch with purple couch and hydrangeas?I really enjoy your blog.I love Italy! We moved a year+ ago to the Bahamas.I’ve thought about doing a blog nyself…It encourages me when I read about the bureaucracy there as it’s a bit easier here but not much!
Congrats Nancy and Luther. I am thinking that there is plenty of room on that terrace for a hammock or two. Would love to see a video on the boyz first gander at their new surroundings. The terrace will make them think they have died and gone to heaven.
Hi James, yes I am feeling relaxed at the moment. We plan to move after closing. before we move we will paint and see if we can get our new kitchen. Since our buyers here are very flexible it does give one a bit of breathing room!
Congrats! At least you’ll have time to plan and implement the move.
Thanks for reading Kathy, and thanks for the congratulations. I’ll keep posting on our move and also upgrades that we need to do. 🙂
Thanks Dotti!
Hi Carlo, yes, pretty typical. If you can close in three months that’s super fast. Happy it won’t be rushed.
Grazie Debbie!
I have followed your blog for 2 or 3 years now and enjoy them so. Congrats on your upcoming move!
Yay! Sounds so exciting! Buona fortuna!
Congratulations, Nancy! That is good news. But I am surprised by your closing remarks. Two more seasons in the current flat?! That seems like a really long time—for all parties. Is that typical in Italy or just something the parties to your particular sale and purchase wanted?
Molti auguri!
Hi Melissa! Thank you! When are you coming? We would love to have you. The new place is very different. Not old, not in Centro. But walking distance. I will adapt!
Congrats Nancy!! So glad the search and negotiation process is over. Hoping the move and reno goes smoothly. Big changes ahead! Looking forward to a spritz on that lovely terrace on our next visit! Meanwhile, enjoy the next 2 seasons.
Hi Bill, you are right! It is Italy…nothing EVER goes smoothly here. But it’s ok. We are used to it.
Oh, no! I will be writing…I meant now I can stand down and relax until next year! And thanks for the well wishes! We shall work out the stove thing. There is a good store here with a great variety
Congratulations and best wishes to you and Luther on this exciting new adventure. I’m sure it will go surprisingly smoothly and at times..not so smooth.
Yay!!! And don’t worry about the wood stove – Luther will have no trouble carrying the new one up the stairs. Serious congratulations! I’m a little confused by your “hiatus” comment. Please tell me you’re not taking a break from your NGTI blog ???
